Frequently Asked Questions

  • You can trust me to keep you as comfortable as possible throughout the entire treatment. The area will be initially numbed with a topical numbing cream which is left on at least 15 minutes to fully activate. During the procedure, a secondary numbing liquid is applied that works even faster and better than the initial numbing cream. My more sensitive clients rate the pain level a 2 out of 5. Many find the process relaxing and some even fall asleep!

  • The healing process for Permanent Makeup varies for every client. Every client’s body and skin reacts to the treatment differently but PROPER AFTERCARE WILL ALWAYS GIVE THE BEST RESULTS. Some common side effects to expect are:

    - Red or pink tenderness in the area & mild swelling. It’s commonly compared to feeling like a sunburn.

    - Mild crusting of treatment site 4-6 days after the procedure. This will flake off between days 4-8. Allow this to flake off naturally, no picking or scratching.

    - Eyebrows will appear darker until the healing skin naturally flakes off, for about a week.

    - After the flaking skin is shed, the pigment might look light, grey or blurry.

    - In 4-5 weeks, after your tattooed eyebrows are completely healed, the pigment will return to full color.

    - There’s no downtime, or need to “hideout” during the healing process.

The majority of my clients comment on how fast and easy the healing process goes by. I will provide you with a wonderful aftercare lotion and a detailed instruction sheet. Know that this is a process and I want only the absolute best final result for you.

  • Here is a list of things Not To Do in order to prepare for the best Permanent Makeup results:

    - Do not take ibuprofen or aspirin the day of your treatment (thins the blood).

    - Do not consume more than 8oz of coffee/caffeine at least 4 hours before treatment.

    - Do not exercise heavily the day of the treatment.

    - Be well-hydrated.

    - Do not drink alcohol 24-48 hours before the treatment.

    - Do not take vitamin E or fish oil 3 days before the treatment (also thins blood).

    - Do not wax or tint your eyebrows 3 days before the treatment.

    - Do not suntan 2 weeks prior or have a sunburned face. (effects the color)

    - Do not have any type of facials or chemical peels 3 weeks before or after.

    - Discontinue Vitamin A (Retinol) prescription products 1 month prior to treatment and over-the-counter products 1 week prior.

    - Do not have Botox 2 weeks prior and wait at least 2 weeks after.

    - Do not have a Covid vaccine 3 weeks or less before your appointment.

  • It is essential that you follow these instructions for 9 Days after your session:

Day 1 & 2: Every 4-6 hours and before bed, do a quick swipe/blot over brows with a barely damp cotton pad or paper towel (squeeze it out). Be gentle.

Day 3: After 36 - 48 hours, gently wash your eyebrows over a sink, with a mild cleanser (Cetaphil, Dove). Rinse and pat dry. Allow eyebrows to air dry completely (5-10 minutes). Apply a very thin layer of the After Inked healing balm provided with a clean finger. Never apply the After Inked to wet or damp brows. Repeat this washing routine once per day through Day 9.

Day 4 - Day 9: This is the daily routine after you’ve washed them the first time. Gently wipe brows with a damp paper towel or pad 2-3 times a day. Apply a very thin layer of After Inked. Gently wash once per day.

NOTE: Too much After Inked will cause the pigment to scab. Use an amount equal to a grain of rice; this is enough for both brows. The pouch you received is enough for your initial session and your Perfecting Session. Please save it.

    • You can expect that your eyebrows will appear dark during this healing time. This is normal and as the layer of skin grows back over the implanted pigment it will become softer and more opaque looking. Be patient, this is temporary.

The following must be avoided during all 9 days post-procedure:

    - Sweating. It is recommended not to sweat for the first 9 days after the procedure. Sweat is salt and can prematurely fade the treated area. ** This one is really important **

    - Saturating the brows with water, including swimming, hot sauna, hot bath, or Jacuzzi. No strong water pressure.

    - Sun tanning or salon tanning. Absolutely no sun after the procedure for 2 weeks. Do not have a tan/sunburn on your face prior to your procedure. Tan skin is damaged skin and the tan will exfoliate taking color with it as it fades.

    - Any laser or chemical treatments or peelings, and/or any creams containing Retin-A or Glycolic Acid on the face or neck

    - Touching of the eyebrow area except for when rinsing and applying the post-care cream

    - Picking, peeling, or scratching of the micro pigmented area in order to avoid scarring of the area or removal of the pigment

    - Performing tasks related to heavy household cleaning such as garage or basement cleaning where there is a lot of airborne debris

    - Drinking alcohol/smoking in excess, as it may lead to slow healing of wounds.

    - Driving in open air vehicles such as convertibles, boats, bicycles, or motorcycles.

Before showering apply a thin layer of post-care cream to protect your eyebrows from moisture. During the shower keep your face away from the showerhead. Itching and flaking may appear during the first seven days post procedure. However, experience has shown that by following these after-care instructions, these symptoms may quickly disappear.

The overall healing will last between 21-30 additional days.

What to expect during and after your Eyebrow session

Your new temporary eyebrow will go through several phases during the healing cycle.

The pigment will appear very sharp and dark immediately after the procedure. This is because the pigment is still sitting on top of your skin, and has not yet settled in completely. They will become darker during days 2-8. This is normal and the color of the pigment will soften gradually. Do not be alarmed if you see some pigment on the cotton swab, as this is excess pigment and/or body fluid that is naturally exiting your skin.

Once the healing of the skin starts taking place, it will look like dandruff flakes, dry skin and/or a light scab. This might give you the impression that the color pigment is fading too quickly, however, this is just superficial color and dry skin being naturally removed from your eyebrows.

Once healed, after 2 weeks, always apply a layer of sunscreen SPF 30 up to SPF 50 on your eyebrows when exposed to the sun. Sun exposure might cause the color pigment to fade away more quickly.

  • It is essential that you follow these instructions after your session:

After your eyeliner procedure, be sure to apply ice in 10 minute intervals to reduce swelling. The wider the liner, the more swelling to be expected. Keep the area dry by placing paper towel between your fresh eyeliner and the ice pack. Do this at least 2-3 times and then as needed. Sleeping propped up on pillows will help reduce swelling. A benadryl may help with swelling as well.
*Before bed, gently blot eyeliner with a slightly damp paper towel or cotton pad (squeeze it out!).

After 36 to 48 hours, gently wash your eyeliner.

    • Use mild cleanser (Dove, Dial, Cetaphil, baby shampoo/wash)

    • Rinse gently

    • Repeat this cleansing routine every night for 1 week

-If you wear contacts please remove them and bring your glasses to your appointment. You should not wear your contacts for at least 2-3 days to prevent the possibility of infection.

-No makeup on your eyes until healed (5-7 days, until after it’s done flaking). Makeup has bacteria and will cause an infection. Then be sure to use a brand new mascara.

-Keep dry at all times other than when cleansing.

    -No heavy sweating until healed.

-Avoid swimming pools, lakes, oceans, jacuzzis

-DO NOT pick or peel. Let any dry skin flake off naturally.

-Do not touch your eyeliner with your fingers; you will transfer bacteria to your eyes which can cause an infection. If you have pets please keep them away from your face.

-Do not use any exfoliating or acid-based products.

-Protect your eyeliner from the sun with a hat and/or sunglasses

    What to expect

After your procedure and for the first few days, the liner will appear very dark and prominent. The area will begin to peel lightly in about 3-6 days. After the area peels, the liner will appear light or faded. This is due to excess pigment peeling off and leaving behind a layer of new granular skin cells over the pigment. The color will reappear in about 2-3 weeks as it heals. Depending on the skin sensitivity, we may not be able to make the liner as thick as you desire in the first session. All adjustments will be made during the 8 week Perfecting Session.

If you have any unexpected problems with the healing of the skin, please contact Theresa immediately, to discuss further instructions. Her cell phone # is 402-316-9061

  • 1. Immediately after the procedure, gently blot any fluids with a lint free tissue twice during the first hour. After one hour, apply a light coat of the aftercare ointment provided with a Q-tip.

    2. Before bedtime rinse the area gently with warm water. If makeup is on the surrounding area you may use a mild soap (cetaphil, baby shampoo) to clean the area. No antibacterial or anti-aging cleansers or ointments on the area. Gently pat dry with a clean towel or paper towel.

    3. Apply aftercare ointment before bedtime.

    4. Rinse the area in the morning and reapply ointment or Aquaphor all day long. Thin coats, not heavy application. Make sure to keep your lips covered throughout the entire peeling process. Repeat this process until lips are done peeling.

    5. Once the peeling is all done, switch to using a deep moisturizing balm with SPF.

    6. NO makeup, Retin-A and glycolic acids on pigmented areas while healing.

NO touching with fingers, sunscreens, direct sunlight, tanning beds and self-tanners on pigmented areas.

NO swimming pools, oceans, hot tubs, saunas and hot steamy showers until all peeling is complete. Shower with your back to shower the head to avoid water, shampoo and conditioner getting into the pigmented area. Avoid saturating lips with any liquids.

Avoid extreme perspiration while in the peeling stage.

*Do NOT use topical antibiotics, such as Neosporin, etc. Only use the ointment provided or Aquaphor.

    LIP BLUSHING HEALING PROCESS

*Before procedure - Be sure to have read and filled out the consent form. Are you prone to cold sores? If so, take steps to obtain a prescription in advance. Also recommended is the supplement L-Lysine, which is for lip health.

Day 1: Moderate swelling, soreness and possible light bruising. An ice bag can be applied for the first few hours and the next morning. Be sure to apply lip aftercare and then a tissue to prevent condensation from the bag of ice touching lips. Lips will have a thick deep reddish lipstick look

Day 2: Slight swelling, reddish thicker lipstick texture, sore

Day 3: Exfoliation commences; lips feel very chapped

Day 4: Exfoliation continues; lips feel very chapped

Day 5: Lips feel very chapped, most of the scabbing has flaked off, end of the first chapping stage.

Days 6-13: Lip color appears to look much lighter than initial application. Second chapping stage begins.

Day 14 to day 29: The color will continue to bloom from within more and more each day until 4 weeks post procedure

Day 30 to Day 60: Healing process is primarily complete; the color outcome is what will remain although you may continue to see additional color changes at times based on your body temperature.

Lips will remain a bit dry for a month or two. Please use a good moisturizing balm and sunscreen and they will return to their normal texture.

  • First 48 hours:

Any redness surrounding the treated area subsides within an hour or two
Redness within the treated area becomes brown as the skin dries out
The treated area must be allowed to fully dry out over the next 48 hours
For most people the area is touch dry within the first few hours
Only touch with very clean hands, ideally no touching for 48 hours
If the skin is not allowed to dry out quickly you will not get the best results
Saline wound care wipes can be used to gently remove excess oil i.e. for scalp tattoo
Do not use any other aftercare products during this initial drying out phase
Do not the area wet or sweaty for 48 hours
For lip liner treatments, during this phase keep movements small and to a minimum

    After 48 hours:

The treated area is now very dry, and a light scab will have formed
You may see pigment visible in the scab
ONE SINGLE APPLICATION of Cavilon barrier cream on and slightly around the scab
This single application will last for 3 to 4 days, leaving a soft film over the scab
You can get the area a little wet when washing and showering, avoid rubbing the area
After any wetness, gently hold a clean tissue on the scab to dry it out
No excessive wetting the area, no swimming etc while the scab is on
Depending on the area treated, the scab will remain firmly attached for 5 to 14 days
Excessive movements are likely to crack the scab, which is not ideal for easy healing
Do not attempt to remove the scab before it naturally heals away from the treated area
For eyebrows, the scab might be held in eyebrow hair until gently removed
At no time can you pick off attached scabs, you will cause unwanted results

    Skin prone to hyperpigmentation:

For those prone to hyperpigmentation, follow ‘First 48 hours’ advice. After 48 hours the scab and surrounding skin must NOT be allowed to dry out or hyperpigmentation can occur. Re-apply Cavilon cream every 2 or 3 days until skin until skin returns to a normal colour

    After the scab heals off:

The pigment may look visibly lighter or different for the first 1-8 weeks
These are not considered results, it’s your skin healing and the remaining pigment settling
Can begin using makeup on the area if desired
Treat the area gently, no exfoliating or excessive sun exposure
The second treatment can be carried out after 8 weeks
Treatment cycle is 8 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks and repeated as required
We leave a longer time if the skin has not returned to a normal colour

    The Removal Process:

Removing, improving or lightening pigment is a process which may take several sessions
Mature or saturated tattoos may initially respond slowly
After 3 treatments we’ll have a better idea how easily the pigment is removing
Pigment may look darker before it gets lighter, especially if was implanted deeply
Pigment that’s closer to the surface removes easier
Brown pigment is made up of black, white, yellow, red and green
Black pigment usually removes first, making other colours more visible
Grey brows may look browner, or warmer colours may begin to show

Tattoo removal is a process with many variables, therefore how much pigment is removed during each visit, or how many visits are needed, cannot be known or guaranteed

Failure to follow these aftercare instructions may reduce the effect of the treatment and may result in undesired problems such as hyperpigmentation, scarring or infection. In the unlikely event of an infection, your technician cannot give medical advice, so immediately seek attention from a GP Doctor or pharmacist
